London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
Travel and Ground Transport

(London, England)

London Heathrow International Airport (LHR) offers travellers a wide range of ground transportation, linking many nearby cities and towns.

Serving London and the surrounding area, travel and transport facilities at Heathrow Airport include bus, car rental, limousine, taxi, train and London underground subway services.

Train Service

The London Underground tube trains provide one of the quickest ways to reach the city centre from Heathrow and each of the terminals use the Piccadilly line. You can expect a journey time of under one hour, even during peak commuting times. The Heathrow tube station is connected by a series of walkways.

Many people favour the Heathrow Express trains, which run directly to Paddington, reaching the heart of the city in around 15 minutes. However, this service is considerably more expensive than the London Underground. The new Heathrow Connect trains tend to offer better value and depart for central London every 30 minutes, making a number of stops along the way, including the stations of Southall, Hanwell, West Ealing and also Ealing Broadway.

Coaches and Travel by Buses

A large network of buses currently operate at Heathrow Airport and the onsite central bus station remains open 24 hours a day. Sited directly above the airport's London Underground station, the bus station features regular services, with extremely cheap bus fares. Tickets can be bought directly on the bus and although change is given, it is much quicker to have your exact fare ready.

Taxi Cabs

Licenced Heathrow taxis can be booked in advance by telephone as follows, travelling into the city centre in around one hour.

  • Terminal 1 - tel: +020 8745 7487
  • Terminal 2 - tel: +020 8745 5408
  • Terminal 3 - tel: +020 8745 4655
  • Terminal 4 - tel: +020 8745 7302
